One of the worst things when planning your content for the month is staring at a blank sheet of paper. Where do you start.

It’s a topic I get asked about a lot. Probably because I don’t stop talking about how having a smooth content creation process has really helped me in my business.

These tips will change the way you think about creating your content and I’d love for you to have a breakthrough like I did.

Anyway, the question I get asked a lot is:

Where do you get your content ideas from?

There are lots of opinions on this topic and I want to lift the veil on what you really need to do to have content ideas ready and waiting for you.

I’ve put together 5 steps you can take to get started towards having a smooth sailing content process.

In the last blog I suggested having content pillars to guide the information you are sharing and keep it purpose-driven.

Take those content themes and use this ideas list below to inspire you.

  1. Have a browse on Pinterest - content on this platform is very visually appealing and usually will spark some ideas - whether you are looking for photo inspiration, or social media post ideas. You can search for keywords or browse through categories linked to your business. Pinterest has lots of educational graphics that you could adapt for your own account. Look at content relating to different sectors to your own to see how you could relate it to your work.

  2. Search Suggestions - On Google when you type in the search bar, you are offered autocomplete suggestions based on popular searches. These hints can provide ideas for content topics that people are actively looking for in your sector/industry. The “people also searched for” section is also helpful.

  3. Customer feedback – What are people always asking you when they contact you? Could you turn that into a few pieces of helpful content. Also, you need to make use of any reviews and testimonials - if you haven’t got any ask your customers.

  4. Instagram – Similarly to Pinterest, on Instagram you can follow competitors, industry leaders, and influencers to see current trends and content formats. Again, following people in different sectors might spark different ideas. Remember, do not copy - just use it for inspiration. I also wouldn’t spend too much time looking at Instagram or you might end up not being productive.

  5. Repurpose - If you send emails or publish blogs, take that info and turn into helpful bitesize bits of information for social media. Also, take a look at your previous content and what has worked well. Can you repurpose in another format?

Hopefully you’ll find this to be as much of a game changer as it was for me.

Step 6 gave me the biggest shift. You definitely do not have to come up with 500 different ideas every month, you might just need a new way to say it.
