Why you won’t hire a social media manager

There is so much online now about social media managers and they seem to be everywhere on Instagram - telling you what to post and where.
You are a very busy business owner already paying for various other services and products to keep afloat. So why add to that list.

I completely understand.
In this blog I will share some of the common objections to delegating this part of your work and I will show you why not investing in this area is holding you back from success.
You think it costs too much
There is a cost involved in hiring a dedicated social media manager, which can put people off, especially smaller businesses or startups with limited budgets.
But if you think of every hour of your work as billable, then how much are you spending on trying to keep up on social media. I am going to suggest that delegating some of this work will allow you to concentrate on your zone of genius - otherwise known as what you do best that generates income, and that will transform your business.
It’s such a simple step but even outsourcing the ideas would be a massive time saver. Managing social media accounts effectively demands time. Without a dedicated person on it, you end up juggling this responsibility alongside other critical tasks, often resulting in limited attention to social media's full potential.
You don’t think social media provides value for your business
You may not yet know the potential impact of having an amazing social media presence on your business.
In my last blog I wrote about all the benefits of social media for small businesses. Take a look at that and see if any of those make you re-think the value added.
One key thing to think about though is the huge potential for missed opportunities if you do not have someone working on this area for you.
A social media manager's expertise can identify trends, capitalise on timely events, and engage with your audience. All of this boosts opportunities for your business to grow that might otherwise be overlooked.
Without targeted strategies, you may struggle to reach your goals - or at the very least it may take longer.
You want to be in control of what you post
If you are a hands-on kind of entrepreneur you might not like the idea of handing over all of your social media management to someone else, preferring instead to do it all yourself to maintain your tone of voice and brand.
Having a social media manager will only boost your brand and tone of voice, not take away from them.
The job is to create and deliver a strategy for your business that aligns with your business goals. You will still have control of the tone and style.
However, someone else might be able to help you with the creative side, and how to put your ideas into a strategy that works.
You think you can manage just fine
You have set aside some time every week to work on your own social media and you are getting by just fine, so why mess with it.
That’s fine, if you are seeing results and growing exactly as you want to.
However, if you are posting and not seeing great results - it may be time to invest in someone to take this on so you can focus on the areas of your business that you need to.
Having a consistent and engaging presence is definitely harder without expert support.
Not only that but inconsistency in posting content or being late to respond to inquiries can harm your business’s reputation.
You have had a bad past experience
We have all had a bad haircut at some point, but that doesn’t mean we refuse to go to the hairdressers for the rest of our lives.
You may have had a bad experience previously like hiring someone who didn’t have the right skills or who didn’t listen to what you wanted, or who you just didn’t feel aligned too. That happens in every industry.
I can understand how it might make you feel hesitant to jump right back in again. However, all experiences are learning opportunities. Think about what you could take away from the experience to make it work next time and don’t let one bad experience put you off reaching your goals.
You are prioritising other areas to focus on right now
You might think social media is less critical than your other business operations and that it is the least of your worries. However, having a good social media manager can enhance your visibility, engagement, and conversion rates.
They bring expertise in content creation, community engagement, analytics interpretation, and staying abreast of platform changes, which collectively contribute to your success. This is not a small area!
Marketing has always been key to business success, and this is just one of the ways you can market your business.
You prefer the personal touch and would rather do it yourself
You may actually enjoy managing your social media accounts yourself and creating content, and that is great news. Having fun with something is definitely a good way to ensure you stick at it, experiment and get good results.
I definitely am not suggesting you stop.
But maybe with support, you can expand on what you are doing to boost your growth.
For example, you might be brimming full of ideas, but a social media manager can help you plan them out effectively and strategically for maximum value.
Alternatively you might enjoy the interaction with customers online, but get stuck thinking of new content ideas. In that case why not reach out to someone for that extra support, so you can focus on what you do best.
In conclusion, I hope this blog has given you some helpful advice in terms of what you could get out of hiring a social media manager. If you have any thoughts or questions, get in touch or comment below.
